The 147th Open Carnoustie: 7 Golf Players and Their Dogs!

I’ll be honest up front and say I know very little about golf! Despite a few golf lessons and a few hours on driving ranges, you’ll normally find me walking around golf courses with our mad spaniels rather than on it.

BUT there is something exciting, and special, about The Open returning to Carnoustie.  Having missed out on the last one due to living down south, I’m excited to hear and see the buzz about the town!  It’s an amazing chance for us to showcase our great town over and above what we have to offer golf enthusiasts and great to see so many people benefiting from increased tourism and employment too.

So in an attempt to swat up on my golfer knowledge, I decided to find our common link.  Dogs of course!!

I really shouldn’t’ have been surprised to find that so many golfers are made dog owners just like us.  Did you know there were so many?

7 Golf Players and Their Dogs

#1 Tiger Woods

While his entry was just confirmed this week, Tiger Woods hasn’t been shy about his love of dogs.

In December 2015, he announced the newest arrival to his family, Bugs, taking his best furiends total to 3!

#2 Rory McIlroy

In this article from Sky Sports, Rory confirmed that he named his first dog after Ernie Els.  He called his Labradoodle Theo [Els’ first name] and also has a cocker spaniel named Gus.

While we couldn’t track down a recent photography, we love this clip of Rory and a new furiend!

#3 Tommy Fleetwood

As far back as 2013, Johnny Fleetwood has been known to have his furry companion close by and his dog Maisy was snapped enjoying his win at the 2013 Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles,

Paws crossed that we may see Cooky (below) out and about during The Open this year!

#4  Peter Uihlein

We love Peter Uihlein’s Instagram account. He even has Bagger and Breya as his profile picture!

These are two loved and stunning pooches!

Happy Anniversary to the main HBIC. Love ya.

#5  Rickie Fowler

We all know that the game can be “ruff”.

Rickie Fowler knows that our furiends can help de-stress and calm us!

Relaxing done right?

#6  Daniel Berger

Just like Tiger Woods, Daniel had a new member join his family in December 2015.  Kai is one super cute puppy!!

#7  Jimmy Walker

We think Jimmy’s dog has the best name! Meet Divot ;0)

(p.s yes we did have to double check our golf terminology by googling it!).

An overachiever her entire life….Divot. #donttouchmybone #trymebitch

Who’s Your Favourite Golfer and Their Dog?

I really can’t choose who’s my favourite, but it’s clear that whether on or off the golf course, the golfing community is also a lover of dogs too.

If we’ve missed your favourite golfer, who’s playing this year then do just jump into the comments and let us know all about them and their pooch.  I’ve love to include them!

And if you are heading to Carnoustie for The 147th Open then enjoy! We’ll be sharing lots of helpful, dog-friendly and local guides for those visiting with their paswsome dogs in the run-up to this amazing event, so keep in touch to make the most of your stay in Angus.
